Living Outside Jordan and Need a Lawyer Here?

You do not need to travel to Jordan simply to find out whether we can help. A legal problem here often comes up while you are somewhere else: a customer stops paying, an estate needs dividing, a tenant falls behind on rent, or a dispute starts with a former employer or business partner.

How it works

  1. Contact us from abroad. Message us on WhatsApp or send an email.

  2. Explain the matter. A few lines on what happened are enough to start.

  3. Send the documents electronically. Scans or clear photos of contracts, invoices, messages, title deeds or court papers are enough at this stage.

  4. Get an initial assessment. In a paid consultation by phone or video call, we review the documents and explain the legal routes available to you.

  5. Know what comes next. We tell you whether you need representation, a power of attorney, your personal attendance or any other formalities, and what each involves for your particular matter.

Whether you need to travel to Jordan depends on the type of matter and the procedure involved. Not every case can be handled remotely, but in many cases we can review the situation and documents first and explain what, if anything, will require your presence.

If a power of attorney is needed, the required formalities depend on where it is signed and how it will be used in Jordan. We can explain what is required for your particular matter.

This applies whether you are a foreign company, an expatriate who has left Jordan or a Jordanian living abroad.

Debt Collection and Financial Claims

If a person or company in Jordan owes you money, two things matter first: the evidence you hold, and how the debtor reacts to a formal demand. We act for creditors in Jordan and abroad, including foreign suppliers with unpaid invoices from Jordanian customers, companies with outstanding balances and individuals with personal claims.

What we do

  • Review the contract, invoices, statements and correspondence, and assess the claim
  • Send a formal demand letter from the firm, or a notarial notice served through the notary public
  • Negotiate a settlement or repayment schedule and put it in writing, including an acknowledgment of debt
  • File court claims, including claims on bounced cheques and promissory notes, and follow them to final judgment
  • Assess whether a precautionary seizure of the debtor's assets is available
  • Enforce judgments, including requests to seize bank accounts, receivables, vehicles or property where the law allows
  • Seek enforcement in Jordan of foreign judgments and arbitral awards, subject to the legal requirements that apply

What to send us

  • The contract, agreement or purchase orders
  • Invoices and account statements
  • Emails, messages and other correspondence about the debt
  • Proof of delivery or work done, and of any payments received
  • The debtor's full name or company name, and address in Jordan
  • Any cheques, notices or court documents already issued

Recovery cannot be guaranteed. It depends on the evidence, on whether the debtor has assets that can be reached, and on the procedures available. We give you our view on these points before you decide whether to go to court.

Business, Commercial and Contract Law

We advise Jordanian companies and foreign companies that sell to, buy from or work with businesses in Jordan. Most of this work is getting the contract right before signing, and dealing with disputes early.

Contracts

We draft and review supply, distribution, commercial agency, service and confidentiality (NDA) agreements, among other commercial contracts. We can review contracts written in English, with a professional translation where the matter requires it, and arrange a translation of an Arabic contract so you understand it before you sign. Where one party is foreign, we look closely at the governing law, where disputes will be decided, the payment terms and what happens if one side does not perform.

Disputes

Breach of contract, unpaid supply and distribution accounts, termination of agency agreements, and disputes between partners or shareholders. We negotiate where that is realistic and go to court or arbitration where it is not. We also advise on arbitration clauses and on enforcing or challenging arbitral awards.

Companies

Setting up a company, including where a shareholder is not Jordanian; articles of association and shareholder agreements; company resolutions and amendments; and trademark registration. Companies that need regular advice can retain the firm as external legal counsel on a monthly basis. This can suit a foreign company with business in Jordan but no legal team of its own here.

Employment and Labour Law

We act for employees and for employers. Either way, the first things an employment lawyer needs to see are the written contract, the pay records and how the employment ended.

For employees

  • Unpaid salary, overtime and holiday pay
  • Termination, including arbitrary (unfair) dismissal
  • End-of-service entitlements, notice pay and unused leave
  • Settlement, release or resignation documents, before you sign them
  • Work injuries and the related social security procedures

Employees often contact a labour lawyer only after signing a resignation or a final settlement. Ask before you sign, because these documents can affect what you can still claim.

For employers, including foreign companies with staff in Jordan

  • Employment contracts, including confidentiality and non-compete clauses
  • Internal regulations and disciplinary policies
  • Warnings and disciplinary action
  • Ending employment lawfully, and settlement agreements
  • Defending claims brought by employees

Many disputes settle before court, sometimes through mediation at the Ministry of Labour. When they do not, we bring or defend the claim in court.

Criminal Cases

We represent people accused of an offence, and people who have filed or want to file a criminal complaint. This covers the investigation before the Public Prosecutor, detention and bail requests, the trial, appeals, and compensation claims connected with the case.

Depending on the charge, a case may go before the regular criminal courts, the Grand Criminal Court or the State Security Court. We also handle cybercrime cases such as online fraud, blackmail, threats, hacked accounts and defamation, including where one party is outside Jordan.

If someone has been detained, or has a summons for a date coming up soon, send us a WhatsApp message straight away, say that it is urgent and keep the summons or other papers to hand. We cannot predict the outcome of a criminal case before reviewing the file, and we do not promise one.

Family, Personal Status and Inheritance

We handle personal status and inheritance matters before the Sharia courts, including:

  • Divorce and khul'
  • Maintenance (nafaqa) for a wife and for children, and its enforcement
  • Custody and visitation
  • Marriage contracts, dowry and proof of marriage
  • Paternity
  • Inheritance: identifying the heirs and obtaining the inheritance certificate (حجة حصر الإرث), listing the estate, and dividing it by agreement or through the court

Heirs living outside Jordan

An heir who lives abroad can often take part through a power of attorney instead of travelling for each step, for example to agree a division or to sell an inherited property. Where the heirs cannot agree, inherited land held in common can be divided or sold through the court.

Property and Real Estate

We act for owners, heirs, buyers, landlords and tenants, including those living outside Jordan.

  • Checking a property before you buy: title, mortgages and other registered rights, the seller's authority to sign, deposits and off-plan sales
  • Purchases by non-Jordanians, which may need approvals depending on the buyer and the property; we review the position, but approval cannot be guaranteed
  • Ownership, registration, encroachment and boundary disputes
  • Ending co-ownership of land and dividing it between co-owners or heirs
  • Compensation for expropriated land
  • Leases: lease review, unpaid rent, eviction, deposits and maintenance disputes

Insurance Claims and Accident Compensation

Nour Barakat has worked as a lawyer for five Jordanian insurance companies. The firm acts for policyholders and injured people in:

  • Motor insurance claims that were refused or underpaid
  • Compensation for injuries caused by traffic accidents
  • Property, fire, medical, life, liability, cargo and other insurance disputes
  • Insurance claims for company vehicle fleets

Ask about an insurance claim

Litigation, Legal Notices and Dispute Resolution

Many of the matters above lead to a formal notice or to court. We send lawyer's demand letters and notarial notices, bring and defend civil and commercial lawsuits including appeals and cassation, represent clients in arbitration and mediation, and follow enforcement files once a judgment is issued.

How We Work With You

  1. First contact. Send us a WhatsApp message or an email. Keep the first message short and leave out sensitive personal details.

  2. Consultation. Consultations are paid, and the applicable fee is confirmed before booking. The consultation takes place by phone, by video call (Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams) or at our Amman office. If you need the consultation in English, tell us when booking so we can arrange an interpreter if needed. We review your situation and documents, explain your options and, where possible, estimate the likely cost and time.

  3. Engagement. If you want us to act for you, we agree the scope of work and the fee with you before starting. Representation before the courts requires a power of attorney.

  4. Progress. We keep you informed and tell you when a decision, signature or document is needed from you.

Paying from abroad. Clients outside Jordan can pay by PayPal, by bank transfer, or through a money transfer service such as Western Union. You can also ask a relative or contact in Jordan to pay on your behalf through CliQ. We confirm the payment details with you before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hire a lawyer in Jordan if I live abroad?

Yes. You do not need to travel just to find out whether we can help. Contact us from abroad, explain the matter and send the documents electronically. After an initial assessment, we tell you whether representation, a power of attorney or your attendance will be needed.

Do I need to travel to Jordan?

Not necessarily. Whether you need to travel to Jordan depends on the type of matter and the procedure involved. In many cases, we can review the situation and documents remotely first and explain what, if anything, will require your presence. Consultations can take place by phone or video call.

Can I appoint a lawyer in Jordan through a power of attorney?

Yes. A power of attorney is the usual way to appoint a lawyer to act for you. If one is needed, the required formalities depend on where it is signed and how it will be used in Jordan. We can explain what is required for your particular matter.

Do you assist foreign companies doing business in Jordan?

Yes. We review and draft contracts with Jordanian parties, recover unpaid debts, handle commercial and employment disputes, help with company formation, and can act as external legal counsel for companies without a legal team in Jordan.

Can you collect unpaid invoices or debts in Jordan?

Yes. We usually start by reviewing the documents and sending a formal demand. If that does not produce payment or a settlement, the next steps are a court claim and then enforcement of the judgment. Recovery cannot be guaranteed: it depends on the evidence and on whether the debtor has assets that can be reached.

Can you review contracts in English or translate Arabic contracts?

Yes. We can review contracts written in English, with a professional translation where the matter requires it, and arrange a translation of an Arabic contract so you understand it before you sign. If a document is needed for a legal filing or an official procedure, Arabic documents or an Arabic translation may be required, depending on the matter.

Do you represent employees and employers?

Yes, both, though never on both sides of the same dispute. For employees, we handle unpaid wages, termination and end-of-service claims. For employers, we handle contracts, disciplinary matters, terminations and claims brought by staff.

Do you handle criminal cases?

Yes. We represent accused persons and complainants, from the investigation through trial and appeal, including bail requests, compensation claims and cybercrime cases. If the matter is urgent, say so in your first WhatsApp message.

Can you assist with inheritance or property in Jordan if I live abroad?

Yes. Heirs and owners who live abroad can often act through a power of attorney rather than travelling for each step. We help with the inheritance certificate, dividing an estate, co-owned land, and property checks and disputes.

What documents should I send initially?

A short summary of what happened and what you want to achieve, plus the main documents: contracts, invoices or payment records, correspondence, and any notices or court papers. Copies or clear photos are enough at first. Please do not send originals.

How are legal fees determined?

Consultations are paid, and the applicable fee is confirmed before booking. For further work, legal fees are agreed according to the matter, before work starts. Court fees, notary fees, translation costs and other third-party expenses, where applicable, are separate unless otherwise agreed.

How can I pay if I live outside Jordan?

You can pay by PayPal, by bank transfer, or through a money transfer service such as Western Union. A relative or contact in Jordan can also pay on your behalf through CliQ. We confirm the payment details with you before booking.

Can I communicate with the firm in English?

Yes, in writing. You can send us messages and emails in English. Calls and meetings are in Arabic or basic English, and we can arrange an interpreter when a detailed discussion is needed. Any interpreter or translation cost is agreed with you in advance. Official procedures and documents may require Arabic, depending on the matter.
